3 Bedroom House in Saint-Gingolph

This house was built 1899 by the Swiss Confederation for the Border and Customs office and to house border officials. We bought it in 2008 and turned it into our own family get-away. We tried to keep as many original features as possible, including the staircase, the cupboard for the guns in the bedroom on the ground floor (now empty!).

We chose not to have TV or internet here and hope you enjoy a relaxing stay!

Summary: The Zollhaus, old customs house, is an amazing property. A stately building from the 1890s, it’s located directly on a rushing small river/big stream of snow melt coming out of the alps. Not only can you look out the window and see rapids, La Morge marks the border between Switzerland and France. There are hiking trails up into the mountains. Small beaches, a promenade, and restaurants await along the lake. This is the center of a very old town, so it’s not really designed for cars. If possible, take public transit. From Switzerland, you can come by rail or via one of the gorgeous, fully restored 100+ year old paddle boats (not the kind *you* have to power - more like the Mississippi River kind) across Lake Geneva. Saint Gingolph is small and it’s easy to walk everywhere. Groceries are available at a small, friendly Casino market a couple minutes across the border with low EU prices. The house is super cool, with lots of charm spread across 4 stories plus a basement with laundry. It has room for 2 couples and 4 kids (and 3 bathrooms) but still felt perfectly-sized with 1 couple. The hosts, Claudia and Mauricio were very gracious. Highly recommended!
